Snapchat

Snapchat launched in 2012, changing the way people communicate via pictures forever. This model of sending pictures was very different compared to what people were used. When sending a Snapchat, you only viewed the image for 10 seconds and then it disappeared forever. This suddenly changed peoples' ideas of what to send pictures of, and ways to communicate. Instead of speaking, or texting, they were speaking through pictures that lasted only 10 seconds.

The demographic that became prominent on Snapchat first were teenagers. This is due to its new spotlight in the social media world. There were over 10 million active users in less than a year after launching.

In the years after Snapchat has been around, they have made slight changes to be geared to other demographics besides just teenagers. They have a special spotlight for influencers called your "subscription list" This allows users to follow celebrities and influencers on Snapchat in the same way they would follow their friends. Instead of sending them pictures personally, you can now post pictures to your "story" which anyone who follows you can see. Storys stay up for 24 hours.

Snapchat has also started Snapchat shows. These are short stories people can watch on the app which is another way to draw more people on and keep them on the app longer.

Snapchat began using ads on its platform in 2014. This allows Snapchat to sell ads on the platform to play in while people are flipping through stories or any part of the app. Although Snapchat probably makes a lot of money off the ads, this also helped in the app's exposure. Companies that are now advertising on Snapchat might have not known about the success of the app if it wasn't for this opportunity. Ultimately, this helped in the journey to complete saturation.

While taking a Snapchat you are able to add filters to the pictures. Users can also create their own filters. This is one of the newest additions to the app but it allows a new demographic to be interested in using this growing piece of technology.

Now, Snapchat has over 186 million users and they continue to grow.
